Marcela C. Smid, MD, MA, MS is an Assistant Professor of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of Utah. She cares for women with pregnancies complicated by a variety of maternal and fetal conditions. Dr. Smid’s research interests include substance abuse, opioid epidemic, the global maternal obesity epidemic, pregnancy after bariatric surgery, evidence-based care during cesarean delivery and care for women in underserved populations. Dr. Smid serves as the Clinical Director of the University of Utah’s SUPeRAD (Substance Use in Pregnancy Recovery Addiction Dependence) Clinic, a specialty prenatal clinic that integrates maternal-fetal medicine, addiction specialist, and resource management.
